The DJI Air Unit — O3 VS O4: What to Choice in 2025

The Avata 2 FPV, released in spring 2022, became the first platform on which DJI engineers implemented their new digital solution — the O4 Air Unit. The 4th-gen Ocusync protocol for VTX and a 1/1.3-inch sensor are this model’s main advantages.

Now, all classic Air Units with their maximum power are called the O4 Pro. While the simpler, extremely lightweight body-less platforms are sold by Air Unit. Let’s take a deeper look at such equipment and try to clarify the differences in top-range drones.
Base & Specifications
The DJI Air Unit is a compact digital device with a simple structure — a hardware module, a camera, and antennas. This platform transmits high-resolution video from the camera to the pilot’s goggles via radio. Due to the company’s innovations and embodiments, FPV drones can be used without a GoPro, DJI Action, or other modules. Chinese engineers have implemented the following advanced solutions:
Video: 4K — 60fps and 120fps, viewing angle up to 155°.
The DJI Avata 2 ND filters and top-range stabilization options.
1080p 100 fps video stream with low latency (15 ms).
This HD VTx drone transmitter has 4 GB of internal memory.
Supports microSD cards up to 512 GB

Get impressive flights with no additional maintenance, no tilt adjustments, and no external camera charging. With the DJI Air Unit O4, FPV pilots can use dual antennas via IPEX connectors. The drone’s overall weight is 32 g to increase overall flight time. The coverage of up to 15 000 m and 4K recording is significant.
O3 VS O4: Advantages & Differences
The O4 camera is tuned on a 1/1.3-inch sensor and implemented in DJI’s top-end products — the Air 3, Mini 4 Pro, Action 5 Pro, and on the Mavic 3 Pro, the mid-range telephoto drone. The Ocusync system uses an AI-based algorithm to select the right frequency. The O3 has a 1/1.7″ sensor and transmits the signal to 10000 m with a latency of 28 ms. Here are some other differences:

DJI O3
DJI O4
The lower price, which is below $200
Compatibility with the Goggles V2, Integra 3, and N3
A higher aperture and built-in memory of 23 gigabytes
Video in DLOG-M profile
Lightweight — only 31 grams including the drone camera!
Support RockSteady 3.0

For O3 and O4, DJI pilots can use the same cable and 3-in-1 pinout; simply pick out the connector and replace it. Both video transmitters have the same mounting points, but the camera on the O4 Air Unit Pro requires a few modifications.
Activating FCC mode & Dji Compatibility
The new Ocusync protocol has improved the drone’s flight range. However, upgrading from version 3 to 4 will not improve signal penetration. When it comes to compatibility, FPV pilots should pay attention to the following:

To successfully certify and sell its equipment worldwide, DJI has to adjust its power to comply with the laws of various countries. In Europe and most countries around the world, DJI Air Unit O4 pilots fly with reduced signal power — in accordance with the CE standard. High signal strength according to the FCC standard is available in a small list of regions — Bolivia, Canada, the USA, and Australia.
Key Takeaway
Built-in RockSteady, Gyroflow post-processing compatibility, and support for Canvas Mode (an interactive interface) with Betaflight OSD customization give the FPV drone pilots complete control over the various landscapes and extreme videos displayed. It’s the best choice for people involved in aerial photography or freestyle. Conquer long-distance flights where impeccable FULL HD quality is essential.
